I caught up with some English movies after a long time. I don’t know why but for a long time I was stuck in watching Tamil and Hindi stuff. That too, repeat viewing of old ones. I saw Indiana Jones yesterday and 21 today. Liked both of them. You need to remember the old Indiana Jones movies when you watch this one. If you do, you won’t be disappointed. It was good to see Harrison Ford retain the charm and hear the familiar background score of John Williams at the beginning. It is an out and out entertainer. That’s what the older movies were. They’ve kept up the standards pretty well. If you think it’s like watching Vijaykanth movie in Hollywood, drop dead. It was meant to be that way. You thought things will change just because 19 years have passed by? No!

21 was good. I liked it. It was better than Ocean’s 11 even. Ocean’s 11 depended a lot on star power and spectacle. This did not.

Currently hooked on to the song that plays in the opening credits of 21. It’s Time to Pretend by a group known as MGMT. The lyrics are absolutely chingmingphingzing awesome (This is a call to someone. If she is listening, please start writing). When the movie was over, I realized it was so apt. Listen to it here. Sample this for lyrics:

I’m feeling rough, I’m feeling raw, I’m in the prime of my life.
Let’s make some music, make some money, find some models for wives.
I’ll move to Paris, shoot some heroin, and fuck with the stars.
You man the island and the cocaine and the elegant cars.

This is our decision, to live fast and die young.
We’ve got the vision, now let’s have some fun.
Yeah, it’s overwhelming, but what else can we do.
Get jobs in offices, and wake up for the morning commute.

Forget about our mothers and our friends
We’re fated to pretend
To pretend
We’re fated to pretend
To pretend

I’ll miss the playgrounds and the animals and digging up worms
I’ll miss the comfort of my mother and the weight of the world
I’ll miss my sister, miss my father, miss my dog and my home
Yeah, I’ll miss the boredem and the freedom and the time spent alone.

There’s really nothing, nothing we can do
Love must be forgotten, life can always start up anew.
The models will have children, we’ll get a divorce
We’ll find some more models, everyting must run it’s course.

We’ll choke on our vomit and that will be the end
We were fated to pretend
To pretend
We’re fated to pretend
To pretend

Time to Pretend by MGMT

The first part is so damn brilliant. And the second part is what I really like. It’s very similar to the way I feel right now. This has been in the loop since afternoon! I also found a new pass time. Not new, but rediscovered a passion. I opened the QFI label in my Inbox and currently going through every quiz in the daily digest mails. Damn, I miss quizzing!

I actually tried counting cards and the MGM Grand in Detroit after watchin 21, the dealer was kind enough to let me go with a warning and said that such things don’t work anymore….

Watch arasaangam, It’s much better and more believable than ironman…

  7. Indiana Jones was classic stuff – Harrison Ford has retained his charm those the years are getting ahead of him! Will see 21 since there is such praise for it.
